Iranian animation ‘Release from Heaven’ wins award at the Cannes Film Festival animation day.

Iranian animation ‘Release from Heaven’ wins award at the Animation Day in Cannes Film Festival.

Directed by Ali Nouri Oskui, the Iranian animation won the best animation award in competition against two other animations ‘Junod’ by Shinichiro Kimura and ‘Iqbal’ by Michel Fuzellier and Babak Payami.

Set in a war torn country, the animation narrates the story of a female writer and teacher, Sareh, who has to accompany two of her students on a life changing journey to find their fathers.

‘Release from Heaven’ is a mixture of fantasy and reality in which the teacher tries to tell stories for her students to encourage them, but she finds out that the heroes of her stories are real.

The 70th edition of Cannes Film Festival is currently underway in the French city of Cannes. Run-time for the event is from May 17-28, 2017.

The objective of the Animation Day in Cannes is to facilitate the promotion of Animation during the Cannes Film Festival, which does not traditionnally offer a window for animators.
